our cowboy baby :)

last weekend we went to the buffalo roundup and hung out with the olivier fam!
henry was in horsey heaven and he even got to go on a few short rides.  at first, he wasn't too sure about it, but as soon as we started movin' he was totally lovin' it :)
then he jumped on with pop pop
(henry decided that grampa steve would be "pop pop" now :) )
haha--he quickly became his right hand man--giddyup Rocket!
just a couple of cowboys :)
we also spied some wild turkeys, which, of course, made henry gasp with excitement
and he definitely made sure that rachel and morgan got a good workout!
we had such a great time there, hanging out around the campfire in the evening listening to the cowboys sing, strum guitars, and recite poetry :) of course he did cuddle up with his aunties and gran too!  earlier that week gran picked him up from daycare and they got to spend an entire afternoon and evening together out on the ranch with Tom (the horse) and doggy.  (Molly has a bunch of photos up on facebook if you're interested, go check 'em out! :) ) next year we might have to camp out too if henry is up for it!

where to begin

good question.  i'll just start by saying that perhaps it isn't such a good idea to begin three jobs and move to a new place at the same time.  while keeping track of a toddler.  i don't think i have been lacking this much sleep since the breastfeeding days :)  i enjoy blogging....but i just have been running around like such a nut i haven't had much time for enjoyable things.  austin and i had a little chat about that.  so i'm going to cut down on the photography after finishing my current projects for awhile until i feel sane.  if you are interested in my latest escapade concerning such endeavors you can refer to my photography blog site:  www.haikuhappyphotography.blogspot.com  :)  senior photos and one-year photo sessions to follow the wedding....and then...nothing for alittle while :)

i love working at the high school so far.

i love love love teaching dance at the academy of dance arts so far.

so i'm just going to concentrate on those two fronts after, of course, i tend to my henry and hubby dearests :)

speaking of tending to my henry, one of the main stressors that we recently fixed these past few weeks has been finding him a good daycare.  we didn't much care for the place we were taking him (remember that post not too long ago about henry starting daycare, and how i was trying to find some peace about taking him there full time, well that peaceful feeling never really came for various reasons...)  i won't go into the details of all that, but if you are ever looking for care in this area you should contact me because i visited many sites and locations before we finally chose kid's castle: little miners on the south dakota school of mines and technology campus.  we love it there :) whew.
however, since starting daycare, henry has been sick on numerous occasions.  in fact, mommy is skipping school today because we've come down with a nasty sinus infection.  hopefully he'll quickly become immune to all of this stuff.

ALSO in the midst of all the business, i decided we should probably paint an reupholster furniture.  at least i'm blessed with an incredibly patient husband who just loves to sand furniture...right?...  :)
and that's what the answer to the most recent post is.  wow, i kept you waiting all this time :)

when austin and i first got married we bought one of those high-up dining table and chair sets.  however, now that we were getting it out of storage and using it again, we thought it wasn't too safe for henry, who likes to climb everything.  so we cut the legs off of the table (that pile of wooden block in a white bowl photo) and the chairs so that they are all lower height.  AND since it was a little scratched up....and maybe i was feeling a little sad about not moving into an actual house yet and wanted to do something special and spiffy to replace that bummer....i thought i would paint the table and reupholster the chairs :)
and i'm telling ya, its like we went out and bought a completely different set. without buying a new set. and without spending near as much as buying a new set :) (that's probably the best part).

so here they are....the before....

and after!
i totally dig grey and orange together.  obviously. :)
austin made fun of me for setting up the table and chairs in the front yard.
some people drove by.
they looked at me funny.
i'm used to it.
:)
i just thought they looked even prettier in the green green grass.
THEN we moved them into the apartment, and it turns out that the wall behind the table is almost the same color as it, so the set kind of blends in with the wall.  bummer.  i'm working on how to fix that.  it actually, probably isn't that bad...i will have to take a photo of everything now that we have it moved in finally.

and oh yeah.
i also decided to sand and paint our end tables.  or rather, austin sanded and i painted them :)
i forgot to take some before photos of them.  but they were about the same color as the table, maybe even a little darker brown.  and our couch is brown. so everything was very very brown.
bada bing!
not brown anymore!  these will go on either side of the couch :)
i look at them, and they say: happy. everytime.  i love them.

oh there's more.  maybe its time for a bathroom break?

you're back!  or you never left :)  although we have moved into our apartment, we haven't really moved in yet.  at least we finally have all of the essentials like toothbrushes and diapers accessible now :)  austin had to go on a business trip over the weekend so my parents came to visit and help me out while i tried to unpack and organize a few things.  it was fun and refreshing to have them here.  however, i didn't really get any photos of them with henry.  it was crazy busy. still, shame on me.

BUT, i did take some photos of what we worked on while they were here!  we got a little decorating done.  and who's room did we focus on first?  like that's even a question.
okay just in case you're new here: henry's room.  :)

we put up the sun light fixture that austin and i bought on a crazy ikea outing in the cities over labor day weekend.  that place was insane.  we got good deals though.
and even though this thing was a total pain in the rear, it was totally worth it. because now everytime henry wakes up he reaches toward the heavens and says "sun" rather breathlessly in awe and wonderment.  love it.
the blue buck i sewed found his home above the closet, but seemed rather lonely, so my mom and i whipped up this super cute flag bunting with left over felt and yarn.  made all the difference in the world.  its amazing what little triangles of color can do.  or just any color anywhere for that matter.  i love how all of it cost practically nothing and was super simple.  we just used a small craft paper punch and threaded the yarn through the felt triangles.
my dad set up these shelves, with a little help from me, that i got at target half off.  i've really been milking the target clearance shelves for all their worth lately ;)
the agenda involved quite a bit of mathematical skill and precision.  (thank god someone else did it).
i couldn't get far enough away from the wall to get all the shelves in the photo so i had to take it at an angle. which, sadly, does not show off how neatly spaced and level the shelves are.  because, of course i am a pain in the butt in that i want all four shelves in a straight line rather than any other easier arrangement :) i still need to fill them up.
austin put this together earlier, and we pretty much love it.  henry and his nana organized all of his toys into the bins which made me love it even more.  everything has its own little place. three cheers for organization.  we also got this little gem at ikea. and the red fan and lamp? target clearance!
primary colors have taken over.
all that's missing are some curtains
 henry's little play table
and here is how it works :)
the shaggy green rug was also an ikea find, and makes a huge difference.  it reminds me of grass.  in fact the room is fairly reminiscent of the sunny outdoors :)  if only i could paint the ceiling blue!
my favorite decoration!
and it was completely free!
well...sort of.  :)
i'm really hoping those dimples will stick around.  i realize the ones on his hands will fade away, but god please leave his cheekies this way
