rainy day blues. and yellows. and reds. and greens.

i debated and debated on whether or not to take henry to the pool. in the end i decided to go for it.  i packed up everything and slathered him in sunscreen (which is becoming more and more difficult).  then we got our shoes on and hat secured to his head and stepped out the front door to see some nasty rain clouds hovering over us.
the weather is different here.  or maybe my perception is different.  back east, you could see rain clouds way way off on the horizon and you would know pretty much what the weather would be like for a while...but here it just sneaks up on you out of nowhere.  maybe i should watch the news for the weather forecast.  but why watch the news when you could be watching sesame street right?

so we didn't go. it rained. we stayed inside.  but we needed something to do because henry had a bad case of the crum bums today with a tooth coming in.  i wanted to do something crafty, but the last few times we colored and finger painted he got bored after two seconds because it was old hat.  so i tried out some marble painting.  we whipped out the finger paints and "marbles" which were actually some random chinese checkers pieces (we do not have all of the pieces to any of our games now that we have a toddler....they seem to disappear somehow...hmmm)
i got the idea from this crafty blog: housing a forest
on a scale of 1-10 i would rate the activity a 5.  but in a year or two it could possibly be a 10. its hard to find activities for toddlers that they can really get into.....

first we dipped the marbles in paint, and then we dropped them into an old oatmeal container with a piece of paper wrapped around the inside.  then we put the lid on and shook the container and the marbles painted the paper.
after henry picked out his marbles, which colors he wanted, and dropped them in, he shook it a little and then handed it over to me.  he preferred to dance around to the sound of the marbles shaking.  haha.  there he is, shaking away :)
but it didn't hold his interest for too long.  he ended up getting frustrated because he wanted to see what was going on in the container to make the noise....which would have led to a big mess.  so we gave up after a few.
here is the first one, after just a few shakes.
and the next lovely masterpiece after a whole lotta shaking
and the final one in just balue per henry's request :)
they're actually pretty cool.

oddly enough, or, i guess, not all that oddly if you know henry....i think he enjoyed clean up time more than painting.
